Brown hair and blue eyes is unique enough, black hair I have never seen. In short, there is no particular ethnicity that has black hair blue eyes at all. Black hair is way too common among all peoples in the world, consisting of all Caucasians, black men, etc. While blue eyes are the result of a separate mutation, it does not relate directly to the color of one’s hair. Update and refresh naturally black or dark hair with a tint all over. The blue black combination creates depth, highlights and is super fun.

Denim Blue Layered Hair With Curtain Bangs

Isn't there something so calming about the way this dark hair fades into a moody gray-blue? This smokey color works really well if you have cool skin undertones (and if you don’t? Get it anyway. You’ll still look cute). This silvery blue ombré is a great option if you love the cooler, icier tones in your hair. If you’re looking for an easy way to keep your color looking vibrant and shiny, make sure you treat yourself to a hair toner on the reg.

Tips and Things to Consider

Blue black hair (sometimes called raven black, midnight blue, or perugia black) is a rich, iridescent black color with a blue tint much like a raven’s feathers. Blue black shades range from bold and blue-heavy to inky black with the slightest hint of blue that’s only obvious in certain lighting. The frosted black color is just astounding, and the electric blue highlights take this black blue hair color to another level.

Do I need to bleach my hair to dye it blue black?

If you have natural hair in a protective style, a low-maintenance dip-dyed look could be perfect for you. Keep in mind, though, that some curly-haired types might suffer from dryness, and dye can exacerbate that. "Dry hair is hereditary, especially for curly and coily hair," stylist Mark Townsend says, suggesting a leave-in conditioner once per week to fight the dryness. The very first thing you should do is to settle down with a design.

It brings about a subtle contrast striking the right balance between your hair color and skin color. Medium skin tones look great with blue black color of any depth. From soft, natural black to inky jet black, medium skin colors can rock them all! Like fair skin, the key to getting a flattering blue black color for medium skin is choosing one that suits your undertones. Jet black hair can lack dimension and sparkle, but not with gorgeous, deep blue tones mixed in! Tumbling waves highlight the unique blue-toned black color and show off that healthy texture and shine.

It’s best to avoid lighter shades, like strawberry reds and oranges, as these don’t tend to flatter your coloring as well. We guarantee you will look glossy, gorgeous and glam with your refreshed blue and black hair. This color combination can make for a really sleek, chic look, but it can also go over the top very quickly. For a more subdued take on the trend, Rez suggests opting for blue-toned black hair over a true mix of the two.

To get your hair as glossy as this, try adding a shine-enhancing toner to your weekly hair routine, like DpHue’s Color Boosting Gloss or Overtone’s Blue Toning Conditioner. If you’re really into clean beauty, you might want to check out a few natural dye or ammonia free dye options, which tend to be gentler on your hair. Um, can we just acknowledge that this denim blue-black balayage is actually stunning, and I will not be taking further questions at this time? The teal tones in this blue-black dye job are almost indistinguishable, giving it a super-glossy, all-over blue sheen that still lets a good amount of black hues shine through. Pre-poo treatments, like hair masks and hair oils, to keep your ends from fraying, breaking, or drying out.

Unapologetically different, a blue-hair-color Afro is sure to turn heads on the street. It is common for West Asians, which are part of the Middle East to have blond/light brown hair. Lebanese, Palestinians, Persians, and people from Jordan are asians that can have blond hair and colored eyes. Red hair and green eye genes are simply not as common in populations as other hair and eye colors. One study found that the red hair–green eyes genetic combination is one of the rarest, at -0.14 correlation. Around 17 per cent of people have blue eyes, and when combined with 1-2 per cent having red hair, the odds of having both traits are around 0.17 per cent.

#17: Black Swan with Deep Blue Highlights

Created with fitness enthusiasts in mind, Sunday II Sunday's collection of hair essentials is ideal for the person who enjoys a regular tough workout. Think of its Root Refresh Micellar Rinse like an upgraded dry shampoo for curls. It features a blend of apple cider vinegar and micellar water to refresh your hair and scalp in-between wash days.

Here’s a blue-black hair dye look that will look fabulous as it continues to grow out. It’s been carefully placed to highlight and it also features a lot of undertones. If you have long hair like this example or tend to go to the salon infrequently this dark blue hair might be the perfect one for you.

Blue-black is similar to midnight-black hair but with far more variety. As far as blue-black colors go, the blue undertones or lowlights can be turned up or down as preferred. Experiment with a long pixie cut with a sharp triangular upper layer adding a unique touch to this short hairdo. Embrace this balletic, colored haircut with side-parted sweeping bangs, framing the face elegantly. Give your regular black locks a modish new look by chopping them in steep layers that form a V-shape at the back. If you’re willing to go wild with colors, opt for a duo of navy and tiffany blue.

Look for deep, velvety blue black shades that won’t appear grayish against your deep skin tone. The colors you get to your hair would represent your character as well. There’s a recent trend among girls to get dark shades to hair. That’s where you can think about getting black and blue shades to hair.

Deep, royal-blue tones with tons of dimension, like this ombré color. My favorite way to wear this hair color is with beach waves and a generous spritz of texture spray for the full mermaid vibe. You can make a drastic change and fully transform your look with this hair dye. If you like aqua blue shades and you’re a fan of dramatic looks, this will suit you. Heads up this hair color and pigment can easily fade and wash out as time goes on. Sure, sleek hair is one of your go-to styles, but blue and black hair looks particularly awesome when paired with some texture.

Patients that do not have a full head of hair often suffer from self-esteem issues and have a lack of confidence in their appearance. While they might try to cover the hair loss with a new hairstyle or a hat on their head, these methods will not permanently solve the issue for the patient. In order to make a change that is natural in appearance as well as long lasting, many patients decide to undergo a hair transplant in order to gain the full hairline they desire on a regular basis. Los Angeles is one of the most popular destinations for patients to receive a hair transplant as this city is the home of many of the top hair restoration doctors in the country. Before patients undergo any of the hair transplant options listed above, they should consult with a board-certified Los Angeles hair restoration doctor. They can also schedule a consultation with a board-certified surgeon elsewhere in the country.

Popular hairstyles of the 1980s included permed curls, crimped styles, soft cuts, feathered waves (think Farrah Fawcett), and most importantly, teased roots. In the 1970s, pin-straight strands parted perfectly down the middle was the “it” way to wear your hair, but once the year 1980 came around, attitudes towards hair changed. The typical ’80s hairstyles were part-free, featuring an effortlessly tousled look with plenty of volume.

You can also try flipping your hair upside down and blowdrying towards the ground for extra volume; gravity can help you to get that lift without violently tugging your hair. The '80s were a time of dramatic self-expression with a strong youth culture that embraced rebellion against traditional norms and the more natural hippie look of the late '60s and '70s. This was an age where the artificial was embraced, and crimped locks, in particular, were a way for the younger generation to break free from more conservative hairstyles and express creativity. Pop stars such as Cyndi Lauper and Paula Abdul embraced funky crimped hair as part of their eclectic style. Hair is also more vulnerable to breakage when your ponytail is placed in the same place for a long time, day after day.

With big ‘80s hair on the brain, we’d be remiss not to talk about long, curly hair. Because volume and bounce was where it was at back then, people rocked their natural, curly texture proudly. (Some even faked it with perms, but more on that later!) Embrace your natural waves with the help of a curl mousse like the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle CURVE IT Elastic Curl Mousse.

Sleek Bob With Bangs

We’ve written hundreds of articles, guides, lessons and reviews for you to explore and enjoy. Pick Up The Guitar is created by professional musicians, Ollie, Rich and Dipanshu. Others say that the excesses of glam metal – the drugs, the alcohol, the wild lifestyle – led to its downfall. The heavy guitars and angst-filled lyrics of grunge bands like Nirvana were a stark contrast to the slick, over-the-top sound of glam metal. By the early 1990s, grunge had taken over and glam metal was all but forgotten. A few years later, the 80s hair band thing was big, and I the gargantuan hairsprayed look reached its logical extreme.

Did you know that the perm is a hair styling technique which dates back to the early 20th century? Yes, the man to thank (or blame) is German hairdresser Karl Nessler, who created the look in 1906. Vanessa Hudgens- Toady's version of the perm is styled with less volume than in the 1980's big hair heyday, and the look is more forgiving in a kind of post-beach way.

Today this style is just as trendy, with celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez rockin’ the timeless look. The legacy of the disco era in the 1970s continued to influence 80s hairstyles for women. The love for voluminous curls, bouncy waves, and glamorous updos was prevalent, reflecting the disco’s glitzy and extravagant nature. Women embraced hairstyles that exuded energy and movement, often achieved through the use of curlers, perms, and hairspray. The whale spout pony is one of the most recognized styles from the ’80s. This decade was a time of excess, bold colors, and lots of hairspray.

Vashtie Kola- A perm cut also serves to better define the curly locks of those women who already have, er, curly hair. The hi-top fade was another Eighties hairstyle that capitalized on height. The look made popular by emerging rap artists and hip hop groups like Salt-N-Pepa, Doug E. Fresh and Kid 'N Play, involved short hair on the sides of the head while hair at the top of the head is kept very long. As the decade progressed, the style evolved into a more structured shape with even greater length, and soon became a symbol of the Golden Era of hip hop music.

"Due to newer testing methods and the availability of better ingredients, brands often add active ingredients that help repair and prevent damage," she says. So, we’re better at styling curls, but also better at creating them. It was an era of living on a prayer, cutting footloose, and rock and roll-ing all night long. The decade is synonymous with statement-making beauty looks, particularly the big, bold, and decidedly cool '80s hairstyles. We can't think of a better way to reference the popular '80s haircut than to shoutout Debbie Harry's effortless punk-rock shag.

When it came to hair, bright and neon colors were the order of the day. Bold and vibrant hair colors were not limited to a specific gender in the '80s, either. Both men and women experimented with bright hues, contributing to a powerfully androgynous aesthetic. Teasing, also known as backcombing or ratting, involves combing the hair against its natural direction to create volume and height. In the '80s, teasing usually involved using a fine-toothed comb or a teasing brush to backcomb sections of the hair at the roots.

This ‘do flaunts short hair at the front and sides with longer strands at the back. Love it or hate it, you can’t argue that it isn’t a statement look. The newfound love for the style comes from an update to the “business in the front” section that’s now styled as a piecey pixie, a shag cut or even stylish curls. As for the “party in the back” section, you can’t sport a mullet without it, and it’s a great way to show off your impressive length or natural wavy texture. Wartime victory rolls were a popular hairstyle to play with during the '80s. To create them, part your hair to the side and section off the hair in the front.

The 1980s spawned the creation of many different eccentric styles, like punk-pop fashion and gender-blurring haircuts. It was a decade obsessed with volume, bright colors, making a statement, and expressing all of these things with hair. And the epitome of eighties hairstyles was the cool girl with big curls and feathered bangs. The hairstyle trends that are popular today, like curtain bangs, wolf cuts and mullets, are the same hairstyles that dominated trends in the ‘80s. If you need proof that all things old can one day become new again, just look at beauty trends.

Best known as the original Daisy Duke on the television show The Dukes of Hazzard, Catherine Bach flaunted these '70s barrel curls both off and on the silver screen. A bob is a pretty timeless look, but it has its moments in the spotlight. Eighties bobs ranged from straight and sleek (like Melanie Griffith in Something Wild) to soft and fluffy (like Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club).

Bon Jovi was one of the most successful glam metal bands of the era, scoring several hit singles including “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name. Their catchy tunes and flashy style made them a hit with audiences. However, as the years have gone by, many of these bands have been forgotten. Grunge music emerged as a new force in the music industry, and hair metal bands were unable to compete. In the 1980s, glam metal ( also called hair bands ) was one of the biggest genres in music.

With Michael Jackson wearing his Jheri curls, they became popular despite the pungent chemicals and labour-intensive process involved to achieve the glossy, loose curl look. A long-haired perm can veer away from traditionally tight ringlets. The look is more island-girl than cherubic and, as such, can be styled in a myriad of ways.

Half Up-Half Down Ponytail

Middle parts were seen throughout the ‘70s, and the trend carried over well into the ’80s with women parting their mane down the middle when wearing long, voluminous strands. Thanks to TikTok, we know Gen Z will need no convincing to continue rocking this timeless ‘80s trend. The punk and new wave subcultures of the 1980s played a significant role in shaping hairstyles. The punk movement embraced unconventional and anti-establishment styles, with spiky haircuts, vibrant colors, and shaved sections.

Sleek Bob With Bangs

Some chose to cover teased sections with smoothed-over hair to conceal the tangled appearance on the surface, while those who preferred an edgier, wilder look did not. Ah, the scrunchie — a timeless emblem of the '80s that gracefully adorned the wrists and ponytails of fashion enthusiasts — and that effortlessly married form and function. In an era defined by bold style choices, the scrunchie emerged as the ultimate hair accessory, a fabric-covered elastic ring that tamed unruly tresses with an air of casual chicness. From aerobics classes to school hallways, the scrunchie was omnipresent — a symbol of carefree spirit and sartorial panache. Throwing a scrunchie in your hair is probably the easiest way to get the '80s look; simply substitute your hair elastic for a scrunchie, and then have fun experimenting with its placement. Try wearing your ponytail to the side or in a half-up, half-down style for extra flair.

The Bubble Ponytail or Braid

Madonna came to fame in the ’80s, continually reinventing herself. During her Marilyn Monroe-inspired era in 1986, her hair was bright golden blonde and styled in vintage curls. Singer, actress, and overall goddess Cher conquered the decade’s biggest trend—voluminous hair—like she invented the look. “One popular way, which we are seeing lots of right now, is a perm,” says Russell, whose clients include Anya Taylor-Joy and Jennifer Lawerence. That built-in texture can really help to add a base to maintaining volume. Another way would be setting the hair on rollers.” Whichever way you choose to go, start with an inspirational photo first.

Retro Hairstyles to Try Right Now

Some of the most well-known female hair bands include Vixen, Bitch, and Saraya. The bouffant and beehive were long gone, but enormous hairspray drenched mounds of hair were as synonymous with the decade as skinny ties and Ray-Bans. This distinct look can easily be achieved with Suave Styling Paste. This paste works on all hair types and won’t leave your hair feeling stiff. Work the paste into your hair hands, then run it through the top section of your hair, molding the pieces how you’d like them to stick up. Keep this look budge-free with touchable texture from a light mist hairspray, such as TRESemmé TRES Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray.

Dove Men + Care Well Defined Taming Gel

This modification makes the hair resemble a tail, which leads it to its name. The rattail became extremely popular in the 1980s and began to fizzle out in the early 1990s. You don’t see this hairstyle too often anymore, but we’re sure it will make a comeback someday.

Jane Fonda’s Teased Hair

"In the '80s, perms weren’t the exception, they were the rule," says Toth. Eighties icons like Cher, Dolly Parton, and Brook Shields lead the way with fluffy-to-the-max poodle perms. Today, that curly-all-over permed look is making its way back en vogue — but gone are the days of fuzzy curls. “Use a flat iron and a strong-hold hairspray to lock that look in place.” We recommend the L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray and Bumble and Bumble Bb.

1980s big hair

Check your hair regularly to ensure it doesn't lighten too quickly or become overly damaged. No '80s look was complete without big volume and this trend has stuck. If you're looking for the ultimate look from '80s to try in 2020 this is it. Rihanna pulls of this '80s style effortlessly with mega-volume.

Go Color Crazy With These 13 Highlighted Styles For Black Hair

Some say that grunge music, which emerged in the early 1990s, was to blame. Popularized by bands such as Mötley Crüe, Ratt, and Poison, glam metal is noted for its glamour and theatricality, which can include elaborate costumes and makeup. In the late 80s, however, hair metal began to lose its popularity. When most people think of hair metal, they think of American bands like Motley Crue and Poison.

High ponytails and bangs were individually popular back in the day, but when combined, they were a quintessential representation of ‘80s hair trends. No matter the hair texture, anyone could rock a super high ponytail with a flowing fringe to complement it. Get in on the curly bangs trend and rock your curls with confidence. This is the perfect look for naturalistas who want to try bangs on curly hair. A valentine to curly-haired teen queens back in the day, the permed bob is a sweet, angst-free approach to big curls that we can all definitely get in on this year.

This can actually be a flattering look, especially for those with round, square, or triangle-shaped faces. The year is 1989 and acting queen Meryl Streep is nominated for Best Actress for A Cry in The Dark. She loses to Jodie Foster but wins with this sophisticated updo—the side-parted hair is swept into a low ponytail, and bangs have just a bit of volume. Actress Jodie Foster’s cool-girl’80s ensemble (worn to see a Eurythmics concert at the Roxy) is identical to one you’d see at a concert today. The hair isn’t fussy—blown out straight with a bit of a flip at the end. And the look of big, messy ’80s hair is even easier to achieve more than 40 (yes, f-o-r-t-y) years later.

Achieving and maintaining white-blond hair requires ongoing care and attention so that hair is able to retain as much of its health as possible. In the weeks leading up to bleaching hair, begin to regularly incorporate deep conditioner or hydrating hair masks. This will help fortify and strengthen hair, making sure that the overall health of your hair is in top form prior to exposing it to the harsh effects of bleach. To reduce the risk of over-processing hair and frying your locks completely, consider bleaching it in multiple sessions rather than trying to achieve the desired color at once. If you are bleaching your hair yourself, keep a close eye on the bleach as it processes.

For some extra shine, try Colorwow's Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray ($29). These Scunci Velvet Scrunchies ($7) are perfect for adding an effortless '80s vibe to any modern day look. The high pony trend has never died, but it probably continued thanks to Olivia Newton-John.

Reeling in a winner: Hudson House is all that and an oyster bar East Dallas

hudson house lakewood

For those grieving the loss of IHOP pancakes, fear not. Hudson House’s brunch menu incorporates creations that rival the popular pancake chain. Hudson House’s version includes a red velvet Belgian waffle with honey butter, maple syrup and double-fried chicken. The lemon pancakes will also satisfy any sweet tooth with lemon ricotta, powdered sugar, cream cheese glaze, blueberries and whipped cream. My dining companion and I decided to try all six oyster options at Hudson House and all were delicious, but I must say that the blue points were my absolute favorite. I made sure to note when we were leaving that during happy hour (every day from 3 to 6 pm) all oysters are half-price (normally it’s $3.50 per oyster).

A West Village Brunch

This incredible chip and dip pairing was hard to stop chomping on throughout our meal. But room had to be saved, especially because the Hudson cheeseburger, Big Brother Lobster Roll, and French Chicken were coming out next. All were outstanding, but for me, nothing could beat the popular cheeseburger topped with pickles, minced onion, and Hudson sauce. And for dessert, do not miss the Key Lime pie — it’s one of the best things you’ll try. Ownership group Vandelay Hospitality announced that the Lakewood outpost will open its doors at 4040 Abrams Road on July 28.

In the case of the blue point the blurb read “first timer’s favorite” and for raspberry simply “oyster snob’s favorite.” Also, the Hudson House team is smart to recommend the perfect drink to accompany each oyster. On my quest to become that ideal of a human, I have found a new favorite brunch spot, Hudson House. It boasts two Dallas area restaurant locations — one in Addison and the other in University Park, with a third is poised to open in early 2020 in Lakewood. Other items we sampled that late afternoon included the American tuna tower salad and Big Brother lobster roll.

I went with my standard Brooks Brothers white button-up, an Anderson & Cooper navy striped cotton sweater tied around my shoulders, shorts, and Stan Smith Adidas. As vice president of culinary for Vandelay Hospitality, Douglas is elevating old dishes like the chicken Parmesan by recreating the sauce and upgrading the pasta with a selection from Eataly. He is also introducing new items like grilled oysters to keep the menu fresh and exciting. Be on the lookout for a molten lava cake that may make its way into the Hudson House dessert rotation.

I opted for the “World’s Coldest Martinis” for my second drink. The Stone Fruit with peach vodka, Patrón Citrónage, white cranberry, and fresh lime was the perfect choice. Paired with seafood tower, The Bouquet, we couldn’t have had a better start to our meal. As impressive as it was educational, the tower came with twelve oysters and an informational card explaining their origins and flavor profiles.

On a weekday evening at Hudson House Addison, the covered outdoor patio was comfortable and safely spaced out. All servers and management wore their masks and it truly felt like a mini vacation once the first cocktail came out — a frozen peach Bellini always doles out those beach vibes.

Get more of Dallas’ top restaurant, real estate, society, fashion and art in your news feed. Busy for brunch on the weekend, definitely need reservations but we weren't rushed after we were seated, the eggs Benedict were tasty, and love the French press coffee. Luckily we were able to get a table away from the crowded part of the restaurant, but we're near the kitchen. I enjoyed the Addison restaurant's ambiance a lot more. Hudson House, the DFW mini-chain known for its killer oyster happy hour specials and top-notch burgers, will open its doors in Lakewood next week. My colleague, the ever-so-chic Lisa Collins Shaddock, shared with me that she and her husband are diehard Hudson House brunch fans.

Collins says restaurant staff seat guests in every other booth and do not allow people to wait in the lobby for a table. After experiencing almost half of the menu in one sitting, I get the hype. Keep an eye out for Hudson House’s Greek key and pineapple motifs hidden in antique materials soured from around the world. Another starter we tried was Hudson’s Avocado Dip with whipped avocado and ranch chips.

Vandelay Hospitality is expanding its buzzy, East coast-inspired Hudson House Restaurant & Raw Bar into the Lakewood neighborhood of East Dallas. The brand’s third outpost will open at Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road, housed in the iconic former IHOP Restaurant space. I was elated to hear that one of my favorite brunch spots had just opened a new outpost in my neighborhood. And it has half-price martinis and some shining stars from the menu (including oysters) also at half-price from 3 pm til 6 pm. Hudson House Lakewood has debuted during a time when other restaurants are struggling or have closed.

It was originally scheduled to open earlier this year, but we all know how most well-laid plans. Their other two locations, Addison and University Park, have also reopened this summer, but with limited-capacity guidelines in place. The menu will serve the same wildly popular cheeseburgers, super-cold martinis, and East Coast oysters as other Hudson House locations, along with weekend brunch options. Daily, with half-price burgers and budget-friendly prices on East Coast oysters.

When they go they like to play a game where they fantasize about traveling to the place where their oyster hails from and what they would do there for a vacation. First off, I knew this was a cool place given that our server Jill had an amazing haircut, platinum and edgy — and also worked on the side as a DJ. Given the current economy, many out there (myself included) are looking for some high-end fun, but at lower prices. Happy hour is often a way to get a classic cocktail and some house specialties at discounted prices.

If you see me there (socially distanced from you on another bar stool), be sure to shoot me a knowing wink and let me know your thoughts on those oysters. Throw in some blue-and-white porcelain and bowls of lemons, and I’m a happy camper. Music was loud enough to provide a lively background, and on our visit, Michael Jackson came on twice (“Rock with You” and “Human Nature”).

Is popular for its half-price drinks, oysters and famous cheeseburger, but neighbors hoping to avoid groups may want to skip happy hour and miss other peak dining times. Customers can socialize with their pandemic pod in the Pineapple Room, a private dining nook that seats eight guests. They were light and fluffy, almost as if they were the clouds from my culinary heaven. The pancakes were topped with lemon ricotta, powdered sugar, cream cheese glaze, blueberries and whipped cream. Lemon ricotta now needs to go on almost everything I make. Hudson House is known for oysters, fish and seafood towers, but the cheeseburger is the must-try menu item at this highly anticipated new restaurant.

Having lived in New England (Mystic, Connecticut, to be precise) I’ve had my fair share of lobster rolls. It was lightly toasted and not incredibly thick (I hate any version of this sandwich where it’s impossible to get a whole bite into your mouth at once). But the months-long hype surrounding Hudson House has drawn its own crowd. Some neighbors have shared on social media that the restaurant often appears too crowded.

Over 3,000 gallons of oysters and 125,000 pounds of shrimp are consumed and over 450,000 raw oysters are freshly shucked on the premises. We farm and harvest our very own oysters, cultivate fresh soft shell crabs, harvest stone crab claws, and harvest fresh local white shrimp. Our family of chefs, fisherman, shrimpers, crabbers and restaurant staff welcome your family to have a great local experience at our waterfront location.

C & S Oyster Bar

The recipient of countless awards and recognition for excellence in quality and service, Hudson’s was most recently featured in Bon Appétit as a top pick for fried seafood. We’ve eaten meals on planes that had more elbow room than this tiny Poncey-Highland seafood spot, but you won’t find a blackened grouper sandwich packed with this much spicy char anywhere else in the city. Fishmonger specializes in fish sandwiches ranging from lobster rolls to a fresh (not-canned) tuna melt, which is served cold despite the melted cheese stuck to hearty sourdough bread. And their seafood chowder and citrus-sprinkled ceviches are just as good as the bready dishes. Order at the counter and fight for one of the 10 or 12 seats inside the cramped room.

Don’t let the down-home aesthetics deter you from scarfing down a meal at Fontaine’s—this dive bar fills a void for Atlantans who want to eat legit seafood in an uber-casual environment. All the usual dive bar trappings are present (low lighting, dark wood paneling, and creaky booths that’ve seen better days). But the owners of this VaHi spot went a step further and stuffed the menu with a variety of underwater things too. Since it’s an oyster house, start with a dozen (props if you wanna shoot for 48).

It’ll be interesting to see how it fares in LA, as a different restaurant with the same name already exists in the South Bay. The Dallas restaurant group owned by Hunter Pond is banking on a clubby East Coast-style menu with some local ingredients and flavor. Hudson House goes big on its open raw bar featuring oysters, seafood towers, sushi, and shrimp cocktails. Appetizers go heavy on big salads, cauliflower bites, and a Nantucket chowder using freshly shucked clams. Stepping off the BeltLine isn’t as fun as stepping off the beach.

The joys of Guatemalan seafood are at La Cevicheria on Pico Boulevard. One will likely see most tables eating the ceviche with blood clams dressed in citrus, tomato, avocado, and mint. At Hudson’s, our primary goal is to get seafood onto your plate in hours, instead of days, after harvest. Vandelay Hospitality Group will open a new location for its Hudson House restaurant chain Monday on the Sunset Strip between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. Starting January 30, Hudson House is open Monday through Friday from noon to 3 p.m. The new hotspot is right next to SoHo House, Lavo, and Prince Street Pizza.

Throw in some entrees like the light and flaky whole fagri or lemon-heavy halibut and you’ve got yourself a great seafood meal. Coni’Seafood is an LA favorite where Nayarit-style grilled seafood keeps folks coming back to try the wonder that is the whole grilled snook smothered in chile paste. The impeccably fresh aguachile doused in fiery green sauce and served with cucumber and red onion is also a must-order. Broad Street Oyster Company, the once-nomadic raw bar setup known for Sunday sessions at Smorgasburg, is the busiest restaurant in Malibu, with long lines stretching on the weekends. The lobster rolls are a thing of beauty, but don’t skip on the razor clams and fresh uni. Head to the OG location or the ones at Santa Barbara, Grand Central Market, or the forthcoming stand at the Huntington Beach Pier.

Atlanta Fish Market may no longer hold the see-and-be-seen status it previously held for decades, but eating here can still rival the fine seafood houses of any coastal city. Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks is one of  Hilton Head Island's oldest and most famous restaurants with 44 years of casual dining experience featuring fresh, local seafood and spectacular views of the Intracoastal Waterway. The business was established by the Hudson family in 1912 as an oyster processing facility and evolved into a restaurant in 1968. At 365 seats, Hudson’s is also one of the Island’s largest eateries and a longtime favorite of residents and visitors alike.

Head to this Vietnamese seafood specialist for the signature baked catfish. Sáu Can Tho Vietnamese Kitchen’s whole crispy-skinned fish is served with herbs, lettuce, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber spears, vermicelli rice noodles, and rice papers. One might need to order extra tangy-sweet tamarind dipping sauce. Chef Dom Crisp’s Echo Park menu is paired with a respectable wine list and fresh cocktails in Echo Park. Sit in the front or rear patios and order variations of fresh oysters, perfectly cooked octopus, or the uni wonton with Osetra caviar, wild uni, wasabi aioli, and chives. A modern farmhouse seating area makes use of a textured rug and open shelving. As these homeowners were constructing their properties, the homes were often made from readily available materials, like wood or stone, and were designed for both comfort and functionality. Often this meant the homes weren’t large—as most users would spend the majority of their time outdoors—but were welcoming after a long day of work. Here, Sarah Solis Design Studio has created a feature out of a collection of sun hats.

Shea says that her clients who are most eager to embrace this look are drawn to its ability to be equally durable and utilitarian as it is elevated and sophisticated. “Life in general has become so chaotic in the past few years,” she says. Another farmhouse-style living room by House of Jade features a more neutral color palette with pops of color from plants.

Juxtapose City and Country

According to Becky Shea, an interior designer and founder of Becky Shea Design, farmhouse style is as much a lifestyle as it is a design aesthetic. “It’s really about a lifestyle and bringing that simpler, clean aesthetic to a home, and really focusing on what matters the most,” she says. Often defined as chic, comfy, cozy, or warm, it’s a look that’s been made particularly popular in the last decade or so. And while you might recognize it when you see it, understanding the core design elements and principles can help anyone bring this welcoming and homey style into their space. Below, AD talks with Shea and interior designer Kirsten Krason from House of Jade about farmhouse design and bringing this style to life. Farmhouse decor involves a combination of rustic, vintage, modern, and industrial themes.

'The beauty of bookshelves is that they can fill an entire wall, or simply slot into an awkward nook to create interest and drama,' suggests Country Homes & Interiors editor, Andréa Childs. 'This is a great wall decor idea for a rustic home as you can build shelving to fit around features such as beams, stoves, or sloping ceilings. For a modern look, go for brighter colors, and for a more classic style, then stick to neutrals and natural materials. A key element to consider for farmhouse bathroom ideas includes a focus on the warmth wood and plenty of inviting, cozy texture. Instead, the construction materials create their own kind of texture and layering. The corrugated metal that makes up most of the ceilings was carefully placed — by virtue of a graph drawn up by the designer — so that the rusted pieces would not be grouped together.
